Overview

When prospecting via your LinkedIn profile, you likely have a broad network, including some qualified leads. You may want to import these 1st-degree connections into LGM for your campaigns.

However, LGM won’t know if a lead is part of your 1st-degree network when you import it. No worries! There are several ways to handle this.

Key benefits

  • Use your existing network: Exclude or manage LinkedIn connections directly within LGM.

  • Flexible solutions: Apply the best method based on your specific situation.

  • Optimized sequences: Manage automation smoothly with your LinkedIn connections.

What happens if I send a connection request to someone I’m already connected with?

La Growth Machine works with all levels of LinkedIn relationships. Here’s how LGM handles this situation:

Possible scenarios when adding a contact on LinkedIn

  1. Invitation pending: If there’s a pending connection request, LGM detects it and waits for the usual acceptance period.

  2. Already connected: If you’re already connected with your lead, LGM detects this automatically and moves on to the next step in "When Accept Request".

Important:
By default, sequence logic works perfectly, but copywriting issues can arise in two scenarios:

  • If your note contains a message: The note won’t be sent because you’re already connected.

  • If the follow-up message references the note (e.g., “I’m following up on my connection request [...]” or “Thanks for accepting [...]”), it will create a mismatch if the note wasn’t sent.

Tip: To avoid these issues, use custom sequences and create a specific path using the “Is a contact” condition.

Option 1 — Exclude people during your LinkedIn search

If you're using LinkedIn Basic

Open a search and select only 1st-degree connections:

If you're using Sales Navigator

Use the advanced filters to exclude people you’re already connected with (1st-degree relationships):

It's all great, but what about if the source isn't LinkedIn, say a CSV Let's have LGM manage it for you:

Option 2 — Exclude people within your LGM sequence (Pro and Ultimate only)

With Pro and Ultimate plans, you can use custom sequences to modify your sequence.

Create a specific path with the “Is a contact” condition

Two options:

Option 1: Write a message that doesn’t mention the acceptance of the connection:

Option 2: Manage the lead manually based on the history and add it to a new audience:

Important to know

  • The “Is a relation / Is a contact” condition is part of custom sequences, available only with Pro and Ultimate plans.
