When prospecting with your own LinkedIn profile, you likely have a large network that corresponds to your needs, including qualified leads. In this case, you may want to import your first-degree network into LGM for prospecting.

However, since enrichment is only performed when a campaign is launched, we won’t know if a lead is in your network.

But there are several options to handle this. Let’s discover which one suits best for you!

Table of contents :

Default: What happens If I send a connection request to someone I'm already connected with?

La Growth Machine can work with any type of connection degree. However, we will act differently when using Add Contact on LinkedIn :

  • if you already have a pending request, LGM will detect it and wait accordingly to the planned delay

  • If you're already connected with the lead on LinkedIn, we will automatically detect it as well, and move on to the next action planned after the "When Accept" path.

No worries then, by default, the logic will make it work. Though it could generate some mistakes depending on your copywriting, in two specific cases :

  • If your connection request includes a note, said note will ne be sent since you're already connected with the lead. If your message after the being accepted mentions your note such as "Following up on my connection request [...]" or "Thanks for accepting my invite [...]", though the note was not sent, this will create a copywriting problem

  • If your connection request does not include a note, but you're already connected with the lead, this can create a problem if your message starts with "Thanks for connecting [...]" - but you've already been connected for a while, potentially you already talked with them in the past

Such two mistakes can betray automation. To avoid these, you have two options :

  • Cleaning your lists before importing

  • Use the custom sequence feature to modify your sequence by creating a specific path with the "Is a contact" conditions

How to target only my 1st Degree LinkedIn Connection when importing from LinkedIn?

When importing Leads from LinkedIn, you can choose to only include leads from your 1st network.

Selecting a 1st-degree connection with Basic LinkedIn

If you are using Linkedin Basic and you’re not a SalesNav user, here’s what you can do :

  • Open a Search

  • In the “Relation” tab, select 1st only

You’ll make sure that no one from your network will be imported!

Selecting 1st-degree connection with Sales Navigator

If you are using Sales Navigator, the dedicated filter also exists to only include the 1st-degree connection :

It's all great, but what about if the source isn't LinkedIn, say a CSV Let's have LGM manage it for you

Option 2: How to include only 1st Degree Connection within my sequence (Ultimate Plan Required)

If you haven’t paid attention or if your leads are from a CSV for example, you won’t be able to know. In that case, we’ll find it within the campaign, because, remind yourself, we enrich leads when the campaign is started, not when you import your leads!

In LGM, we have a block “Is a relation?”. This bloc offers several options :

  • Option 1: Create a specific message not mentioning the recent acceptance

  • Option 2: deciding not to automate anything on the lead but rather activate them manually since you might have a history together. You can add them to a specific audience

However, the “Is a relation” block is part of the Custom Sequence feature, which is allowed from the Ultimate plan.

And if you’d like to know more about our custom plans, contact us, we’ll be happy to talk about it

It’s your turn now!

Now that you know how to manage your 1st relation degrees, you’re going to lose tons of deals! But it’s not finished, read these articles to learn more and master closings!
