Overview

For certain reasons — usually related to GDPR compliance — you may want to give your prospects the option to unsubscribe from your emails. It’s also a smart way to avoid spamming contacts who no longer want to hear from you.

With La Growth Machine, you can easily add an unsubscribe link to your emails and properly manage leads who choose to opt out.

Key benefits

  • GDPR compliance with a clear opt-out option

  • Better long-term deliverability

  • Cleaner lead management for future campaigns

What is an unsubscribe link?

An unsubscribe link is a link included in an email that allows the recipient to opt out and stop receiving future emails from the sender.

It’s a standard best practice in email outreach, especially when running automated campaigns.

How do I add an unsubscribe link to my emails?

To add an unsubscribe link, simply click on the Unsubscribe icon while writing your email.

The link will automatically be inserted into your message — no extra setup required.

What happens if a lead unsubscribes?

If a lead clicks the unsubscribe link, they are automatically marked as Unsubscribe.

The campaign is immediately stopped and marked as completed for that lead.

Important: Once a lead unsubscribes via the unsubscribe link, you will no longer be able to contact them — even if you add them to another campaign.

Pros and cons of displaying an unsubscribe link

Pros

  • GDPR compliance: Leads can easily opt out and stop receiving future messages

  • Long-term deliverability: Fewer spam complaints help protect your domain reputation

  • Cleaner lists: A healthier contact list improves deliverability and campaign performance

Cons

  • Short-term deliverability: Providers like Google can detect unsubscribe links and associate them with bulk sending

  • Reply rate impact: Leads may more easily recognize that the message is automated

Tip: You can also unsubscribe a lead manually from your lead portfolio.

Unlike an unsubscribe triggered by the lead via the unsubscribe link — which is irreversible — manual unsubscribes are reversible. You can decide to Resubscribe a lead at any time.

Unlike an unsubscribe initiated by a lead from the unsubscribe link, this is a reversible action: you can decide to "resubscribe" your leads at any time.

Creating a tracked unsubscribe link

Another option is to create a tracked link pointing to a specific page.

Step 1: Create a dedicated landing page

Create a landing page that confirms to the prospect that they have successfully unsubscribed from your campaign.

Step 2: Add the link to your email

In every campaign email, add this link as a hyperlink at the bottom of the message with copy such as:
“Don’t want to receive my emails anymore? Click here to unsubscribe.”

Step 3: Enable link tracking

Activate link tracking to detect when prospects click the link.

Step 4: Stop the campaign and blacklist the lead

Configure your campaign to stop as soon as a prospect clicks the link, then automatically add them to a dedicated audience you’ll use as a blacklist.

You can then go to this blacklist audience and unsubscribe leads in bulk.

Tip: You don’t need to add an End sequence block. Once the lead reaches the final Add to audience block, they will be stopped anyway since there are no further actions in the campaign.

Important: If you choose this option with a tracked unsubscribe link, make sure to set up custom domain tracking. This helps improve email deliverability and engagement rates.

FAQs

Why should I add an unsubscribe link to my emails?

Can an unsubscribed lead be contacted again later?

No. If the unsubscribe is done via the unsubscribe link, it is permanent.

What’s the difference between manual unsubscribe and link-based unsubscribe?

Manual unsubscribe actions are reversible, while unsubscribes triggered via the unsubscribe link are irreversible.
