If you are already tracking some links in the emails you sent using LaGrowthMachine, then you might want to read the following.

Table of contents:

What is a tracking domain?

A tracking domain is a URL that allows the collection of engagement analytics in your emails. It has the following structure tracking.actual-url.com and allows you to track when your email has been opened and clicked.

The tracking domain is almost invisible to the leads since they will automatically be redirected to the final URL after clicking a link. They can only visualize the tracking domain if they hover over the hyperlink.

Why use a custom tracking domain?

Let's listen to our expert Adrien

Email deliverability

When you don't use a custom tracking domain, then you use the default tracking domain which is actually shared across all the users of LaGrowthMachine. It means that the actions of others can have an impact on your email reputation. At the same time, if you use a custom tracking domain, you can actually build your own email reputation thanks to your outbound actions.

Besides using a tracking domain that is not coherent with your email domain can be interpreted as spamming or phishing by the email service. Therefore it can decrease the deliverability of your emails.

Engagement rate

The probability your lead clicks on your link will be higher if the URL seems familiar to them. Indeed, you would probably not click on a link sent by your bank if the URL that appears on hover contains a tracking domain different from the bank domain.

How to set up a custom tracking domain?

Start your setup by accessing Settings > Custom tracking domains

  1. Click on "Add Subdomain"

  2. Select the identities for which you want to use the custom tracking domain: either all identities or manually select the relevant ones

  3. Enter your domain URL and click on "Generate Subdomain"
Make sure to not use http/https/www before your domain

  4. The CNAME record to add to your domain provider will appear (the host could be T or C). You can copy-paste these values and save your settings.

  5. The TXT record to add to your domain provider will appear (one or two). You also have to copy-paste it and save your settings.

  6. Now login to your domain provider, access the DNS settings and create your new CNAME record.
Here are the instructions for the most common domain providers:
    BlueHost
Cloudflare (your proxy must be deactivated)
    GoDaddy
    Mailchimp
    NameCheap
    OVH

  7. Wait up to 72 hours before coming back to your LaGrowthMachine settings. If your screen shows as below, you're all set!

If after this time DNS Record isn't up, check it via this site :

It’s up to you now!
